Magritte (1898 -1967) • Studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Brussels • He was a wallpaper designer and commercial artist • His first exhibition was a failure, which provoked depression. • Magritte moved to Paris after his failed exhibition and became involved in the surrealist group.

This was a huge blow to him, he said he worshipped her. • After his mother’s death Dalí’s father married the sister of his deceased wife, which naturally he resented. • He was very eccentric and liked to draw attention to himself.
