Who is this toolkit for? The process of support begins with the Classroom Teacher.

Identification process Examples of information gathered for a Childs Planning meeting The identification process for dyslexia should be a collaborative/holistic process and include; • • • Observations – home and in school/nursery Consultation with the pupil, staff and family Examples of free writing Consideration of the learners strengths and difficulties within the Literacy Circles Reading comprehension levels– (if appropriate) Chronological reading and spelling – (if appropriate) Consideration of phonological awareness Sensory perceptions (coloured glasses if appropriate Use of appropriate assessments. One single “test” for dyslexia is not appropriate.

Literacy Circles - Aims To develop a discussion tool which will help support the identification of key areas within the continuum of reading and writing that learners may experience difficulty in when they are developing these skills.

Focus Areas • Description of the key areas involved in the acquisition of reading and writing skills • Identifying areas for consideration • Approaches and Strategies for each key area • Practical resource sheet to record discussions, highlight strengths , difficulties and future planning to support the learner.
