ACTIVITY 1 - What is the ILC? — There is more to the NDIS than some people living with disabilities getting funding. — The ILC part of the NDIS can help other people with a disability. — The NDIS is part of other mainstream reforms — The ILC does not fund individuals. — The ILC provides grants to organisations for activities in the community. — Local Area Coordination (LAC) is an important part of the NDIS. Local Area Coordination (LAC) — LAC is an important part of the NDIS. — It builds the capacity of people with disability in Australia to achieve their goals and be included in all aspects of community life. — Local Area Coordinators (LACs) work for LAC organisations. — They help adult NDIS participants and others to access supports and services. — There are different LAC arrangements in each State and Territory. NDIS Psychosocial Stream The NDIS have built a Psychosocial Stream (mental health) to ensure improved access and planning. It includes: — A focus on recovery-based planning — The employment of specialised NDIA planners and LAC partners — Better linkages between mental health services and NDIA staff and partners — Use of Psychosocial Recovery Coaches for people with NDIS funding (from 1 July 2020) — Block funding for psychosocial disability Community Connectors EMBRACING CHANGE
Recovery Coaches & Community Connectors Recovery Coaches — An innovation in person-centered recovery practice — They are workers with lived or learned experience (Peer Workers & others) — They will help to ensure that people have a recovery-oriented experience of the NDIS Community Connectors — Block funding for Peer Workers & others to provide assertive outreach and engagement services EMBRACING CHANGE

Primary Health Networks (PHNs) — There are 31 PHNs in Australia. — PHNs are about providing ‘the right care’, ‘in the right place’ & ‘at the right time’. — PHNs are helping to build better community-based services for people living with mental health challenges. EMBRACING CHANGE
National Psychosocial Support (NPS) The NPS provides goal-driven short-to-medium term help for people living with a severe mental health condition who are ineligible for the NDIS — Psychosocial disability support services — Community supports — Support to access support and advice relating to known environmental stressors — Lifestyle interventions EMBRACING CHANGE
