Supplemental Learning (SL) SL assisted courses provide students with a trained peer mentor. Characteristics of Supplemental Learning • Form of peer mentoring. • Students attend SL sessions voluntarily. • Designed to assist students with both content and study skills. • SL Leaders are students who have demonstrated success in the targeted courses. • Targets front door courses.

SL Leaders are more than just tutors!! • Leaders participate in all course lectures as a model student. • Leaders take notes and complete most assignments and tests with enrolled students. • Leaders conduct 2 SL sessions outside of class each week. • Leaders use learning theories, methods of peer mentoring, and collaborative learning to help students become independent learners. • Leaders have experiental knowledge of their SL professor’s

What prospective SL students need to know: �SL assisted sections can be found in the class schedule search (not Atlas registration) �SL is free �SL Sessions are typically held the hour before or the hour after class, so leave this time open in your schedule �SL sessions are voluntary (for the most part)
