Women’s / Female Football Strategy History Sunshine Coast FC was a founding member of the original NPLQ female program in 2013, priot to that perid SCFC had their female teams competing in the Football Brisbane competition, with a number of girls moving on to play in the newly formed NPLW program commencing 2013. Whilst competing in the newly formed NPLW program, SCFC achieved the following, which is well documented and current up until the publishing of this strategy. • 28 Female players who have represented State, QAS / Roar and International produced by SCFC from 2013 – 2017 • 6 Female teams since 2013 to finish in the top 2 of NPLW with Senior Women’s making Finals Twice. • Sunshine Coast FC currently has a very successful U 9 – U 13 Female football program, with SAP U 9 / U 10 Undefeated in 2019, U 11 / U 12 2 Losses throughout the 2019 season. • All of the above from only 2013, and not having an NPL license since 2018, only NOT having the license renewed due to late submission from the absent TD whilst overseas dealing with personal issues.
Women’s / Female Football Strategy Collaboration Work Local Clubs (Local) –Talent Identifaction & Outreach • Sunshine Coast FC currently works in collaboration with a number of local federation clubs, to include Maroochydore FC & Kawana FC, Noosa Lions FC to name but a few, working with clubs frequently to identify and establish talented female players for the talented player pathway. This is evidenced in recent State Technicial Audit, through our work on our residential training program. • In addition to the above, SCFC also works in collaboration with Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer Association, and places young female players into weekly games program in the boys competition, to acclereate their learning and development. Collaboration Work Schools – Talent Identifcation & Outreach • Sunshine Coast FC has a long standing partnership with the Football Excellence program with Kawana State School, having a number of our current girls attending the educational institution, as well as having our Head of Female football Liv Latimer deliver weekly training sessions at the school, on top of her delivery at SCFC. • Sunshine Coast FC also has the unique provision of having Peregian Beach College, as an educational partner, this is based North of the Maroochy River. The school through the club owner and Managing Director, offer disadvantaged players the opportunity of fully paid scholarships, which also encompass the entirety of football fee’s. the cost per scholarship is approximately $12, 000 per year, we have 6 female players on current scholarships with SCFC.
Women’s / Female Football Strategy Further Collaboration Work & Talent Identifcation • Sunshine Coast FC has a long standing relationship with Wide Bay Buccaneers and Elite Eleven Football in the Wide Bay region, this relationship was former by current Technical Director Melvyn Wilkes, and has seen a number of talented female players travel from Wide Bay to play for Sunshine Coast FC. Please see below. • Kijah Stephenson (Brisbane Roar) • Maddison Sansby (Brsiabne Roar) • Kaitlin Ryan (QAS / Brisbane Roar) The above relationship is still ongoing, and will continue to flourish as apart of the talent identification & outreach programs for female footballers. A letter of support from the President of Wide Bay Buccaneers is attached.
Women’s / Female Football Strategy Strength & Conditioning / Athletic Development Program Duration (42 weeks per year, once weekly) • Sunshine Coast FC THROUGH IT’S High Performance coach Geoff Evans, Ex-Leeds United (EPL), Ex-North Queensland Cowboys, heads up the athletic development program for Sunshine Coast FC. • The above program was instigated back in 2016 with current TD Melvyn Wilkes, seeking to install a paid individual who will design & deliver a comprehensive S & C and Athletic Development program on a weekly basis throughout the pre-season & competitive football season • All players male and female attend this program on a weekly basis, in the purpose built / designed gym at the Sunshine Coast Stadium, Sports Precinct. • The program does have a difference for boys and girls, with a main focus on strengthening the ACL within in the female players. Collaboration Work for S & C • Sunshine Coast FC does work closely with The University of Sunshine Coast, to obtain access to students who can help deliver the above program, this ensures that quality provision to small ratio groups in achieved. Again this is all done through the guidance and supervision of Geoff Evans.
Women’s / Female Football Strategy Pre-Season & Mid-Season Residential Programs • Sunshine Coast FC invests a significant amount of time and resources into the preparation and maintenance of all of its players, including females. • Sunshine Coast FC delivers an in depth pre-season residential program at Peregian Beach College, which focuses on team cultures, playing styles, goal settings, again this documentation was presented to the State Technical Director, at our recent Technical Audit, evidence of this can also be found on our social media pages. Women’s / Female Football Strategy Facilities to Cater for Demand • Sunshine Coast FC currently has sufficient compliant facilities to cater for mixed gender football, Sunshine Coast has access to the following facilities, through its long standing annual agreement with Sunshine Coast Regional Council. 1. Sunshine Coast Stadium (games ONLY) 2. Kawana Sports Precinct Eastern Precinct (games and training compliant, 3 full fields with each team allocated at least half a field for training, with state of the art LED lighting (150 Lux), changing facilities for male and female footballers, which are segregated x 6. This was observed during our recent Technical Audit. 3. Kawana Sports Precinct Western Precinct (games and training compliant, 4 full fields on same venue, half field allocated for training per team, Compliant lighting for NPL football (150 Lux), with x 4 Changing facilities. • Sunshine Coast FC has also sought and applied for additional facilities through Sunshine Coast Regional Council, this is for a 3 year tenure through the new development at the Harmony complex (awaiting outcome). • In addition to the above, Sunshine Coast FC is also in the process of installing a state of the art full sized synthetic field at it’s educational partner facility Peregian Beach College, this will International training and game compliant with (200 Lux lighting), As well as full sized grassed fields and indoor training and changing facilities.
