Date and Weather I have included a date and weather page each day so that you can discuss these with your children. Make sure they get outside every day (even if only for a few minutes at different points of the day) to experience and talk about the weather and how it changes. It might be nice to create a weekly weather chart and add to it every day. It would also be a good idea to discuss things like: What day was it yesterday? What will the date tomorrow be? What are the days of the week? What day comes 2 days after ____? If it is April now, what is the next month? Your children would also benefit from a recap of months of the year and the seasons. Here are some links to some songs they could practise or just listen to a couple of times a week. Days of the Week Months of the Year The Seasons Sunny spells and warm Cloudy with some sun Sunny and hot Hot today, no A cool breeze wind and cloudy Lots of rain Cloudy and cool

Summer Topic - Flight Click the link to listen to the story ‘Amazing Aeroplanes’. This is a book all about what can be found at the airport and information about what an aeroplane has inside and out. Have a look at a map with airports in England on. Compare their location to where we live. Which airports are we close to? What do the children think it would be like to live near an airport?
Can you draw and label an aeroplane?

Science Do you remember this investigation from last week? Place a sheet of coloured card or paper (bright colours work best) outside in a position that gets a lot of sun. Place different shapes on the card and leave it for the week. 1. Draw a picture to show what you set up. 2. Write up your predictions to these questions: What do you think will happen? What will the Sun’s rays do to the card? 3. Then have a look at what has happened when you remove the objects from the card. 4. Finally, write up your results from this investigation. You could draw what you saw or take pictures to stick into your book. Then write a sentence to explain what you have seen. 5. Think like a scientist… What has this taught you about the sun’s rays and why is it important to ‘slip, slop, slap’?

Craft What you need: Clean, dry glass jars big enough to hold a tea light Paintbrush PVA glue Tissue paper in assorted colours Candles or battery powered tea lights for the jars Mix the glue with water, about a 50 -50 mix. Make sure your jars are clean and dry. Then tear or cut the tissue paper into shapes and stick them to the jar with a thin layer of the glue mixture applied with a paintbrush. Don’t go too nuts with the glue mixture, it doesn’t take much. Cover the entire jar for the best effect. Give it an hour or so to dry. Test them out with a light inside.

PSHE – Healthy Me Another way that our grown ups keep us healthy and safe, is by storing certain products correctly. Have a look at these products. Firstly, can you identify what each one is and say what it might be used for? Then decide if you think they should be stored away from you and why. You could make a table in your book and sort them into: Kept in my reach for me to use Stored away from me to keep me safe
