California State Summer School for Science and Mathematics (COSMOS) App Period: February 1, 2012 to March 1, 2012 Eligibility: current high school students Selectivity: 160 accepted to each of 4 campuses Total Cost: $2840 (all included) Financial aid available App Components: 2 recs, transcript, writing sample, [P]SATs Program Description: a. 4 -week residential program at one of 4 UC campuses - Davis, Irvine, San Diego, or Santa Cruz • Lab intensive courses with emphasis on current research
Summer Science Program (SSP) App Deadline: March 2 nd, 2012 Eligibility: Recommend Juniors, but Sophomores with Calc Selectivity: 36 accepted to 2 campuses Total Cost: $3950 (all included) Financial aid available App Components: recs, transcript, short essays, tests, ( résumé) Program Description: a. 5 week program, emphasis on Astronomy, with Math, Physics, CS • Direct research and observation of asteroid as a team • Classes on other topics that relate or supplement knowledge
Research Science Institute (RSI) App Deadline: received by January 6, 2012 Eligibility: Juniors only Total Cost: $0 App Materials: essays, 2 teacher recs, transcript, SATs Description: five-week long program at MIT where you'll do research with a mentor in some area of STEM. The first week consists of intense classes, and in the last week, you'll actually present your research.
Young Scholars Program (YSP) Six weeks: June 24 - August 4 at UC Davis App Deadline: received by March 31, 2012 Eligibility: current sophomores/juniors Selectivity: 40 from over 600 applicants worldwide Total Cost: $5200 (all included) Financial aid available App Components: 2 recs, transcript, writing sample, [P]SATs Program Description: a. 6 -week residential research program under UC Davis faculty • Weekend excursions: Pacific Ocean, Lake Tahoe, Sierra Nevada
Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program (SIMR) App Deadline: February 24, 2012 Eligibility: current juniors and seniors (must also be 16 by June 11) Selectivity: 160 accepted to each of 4 campuses Total Cost: $20 to apply; participants receive a $500 stipend App Components: 1 rec, online application, writing sample Program Description: a. 8 -week non-residential program at Stanford - June 11, 2012 to August 3, 2012 • 8 hours/day, 5 days/week • Basic research under Stanford faculty in immunology, stem cell biology, neurobiology, cardiovascular medicine, cancer biology, digital anatomy, bioinformatics, or genetics
