Why Is it important to learn about? Substance abuse is important to learn about because if we don't learn about substances and their effect on people and the brain, we wont know how to protect ourselves from the harm they may bring and the problems that come with substance abuse.
Affects on your learning abilities The way that substance abuse affects your learning is that when you are abusing a substance you are either on that substance and you cant focus in class and you don't learn anything or you are always thinking about that next hit and you are thinking about that drug so much that you just don't care about school.
AFFECTS CON'D Over a long period of drug abuse, changes begin to occur in the brain. Because the brain needs to be able to function despite the chemical changes occurring, the actual structure of the brain adapts in order to accommodate. Neurons and brain circuits change and it puts a person at a high risk for health issues associated with the brain. The changes effect not only the ability to feel pleasure, but can also affect motor skills, cognitive function, memory, and the ability to learn.
Strategies to overcome substance abuse One way to overcome substance abuse is to go to rehab and get help from the people that work there. Another way to overcome substance abuse is to go see a therapist and/or a counsellor to talk about why you do drugs. The third way to get over drug abuse is to get support from loved ones and try to let them talk and help you out of substance abuse.
STRATIGIES CON'D A good way to overcome substance abuse is to have someone that is overcoming substance abuse as well to talk to you about their addiction and what they did to get over their addiction. Another way is to get someone from your faith community to bless you and to give you the strength to overcome the addiction you are facing. To get over substance abuse you could go from the drug you are addicted to a less harmful drug and slowly move down the drugs chart till you are completely off it and don't want to do it any more.
