Failure Review Board l Multiplexer Chips - FRB analysis is complete. Electrical Overstress (EOS) has been determined to be the cause of the mux chip failure. FRB Closeout Document lacking one signature. Completion Due Date: October 10, 2003 November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 3
Failure Review Board l Iridium Experiment Package - - - FRB analysis in progress. Initial testing is to check set-up of components and reconstruct failure. l Receive the majority of the parts from NSBF and Greenbelt. l Have asked La. RC to check shipping containers to determine if two WFF Iridium antennas were packed with their equipment. This investigation has been delayed due to conflicts in the use of personnel. l Since this system is a backup and descope candidate, the delay does not effect the CREAM schedule. Completion Due Date: December 31, 2003 November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 4
Failure Review Board l Power Distribution Box - - FRB analysis is complete. New power design options have incorporated board suggestions and superseded the FRB recommendations. l Review Board recommended modifications to the original PDB to mitigate thermal issues associated with power dissipation have been incorporated. FRB Closeout Report draft is being reviewed. Completion Due Date: November 28, 2003 November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 5
Failure Review Board l PCM Encoder Board - - - FRB analysis in progress. Removed from the TIGER CDM after being decommissioned as flight software test bed. l Being use on CREAM as a spare/backup. Functional test by NSROC revealed failed digital input channels. l An overstress incident was traced back to the TIGER payload testing prior to CREAM. Encoder is at Greenbelt for evaluation and testing to confirm and document channel failures. Replaced failed parallel board on PCM Encoder and ran for 200 hours without anomaly. FRB Closeout document is in process. Completion Due Date: November 28, 2003 November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 6
October 2003 MSR Action Items AI MSR 1101 -1 Description A meeting (Delta CDR-type) needs to be scheduled to review the power system option chosen. This meeting should also review the effects to the subsystems as a result of the change from a ULDB balloon to a LDB/zero pressure balloon. Responsibility Date to Resolve Ron Black October 17, 2003 (Closed) This meeting is scheduled for November 12, 2003 at WFF. November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 7
October 2003 MSR Action Items AI Description Responsibility MSR 1101 -2 An independent power-limiting system needs to be incorporated when using the solar simulators to test the CDM. Linda Thompson Date to Resolve October 17, 2003 (Closed) The SAS has a programmable over-voltage protection device that can limit the input to the power system. That device will be programmed to approximately 35 V. AI MSR 1101 -3 Description The EMI/EMC/RFI testing for the CDM and Ballooncraft needs to be planned, written and coordinated. Help is needed from Code 569. Responsibility Date to Resolve Dan Mullinex October 17, 2003 (Closed) A meeting was held between Dan Mullinex, Brian Corbin, and Dave Stuchlik. A frequency survey was completed and filters of specific frequencies were ordered. Dave Stuchlik has the action to produce the procedure. November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 8
October 2003 MSR Action Items AI MSR 1101 -4 Description The decision on the power system option should be made by the end of the week. Planning and integration of this system should proceed with this option in mind. Responsibility Date to Resolve Linda Thompson October 6, 2003 (Closed) The decision on the voltage regulator has been made. The buck regulator was chosen as the voltage regulator for the power system. AI Description Responsibility Date to Resolve MSR 1101 -5 A white paper should be written on the two power system design options. This white paper will discuss the pros and cons of each system, assume both designs perform nominally. Simon Dawson October 6, 2003 (Closed) The system engineers generated a white paper on the pros and cons of the two power design options. The buck regulator was chosen as the voltage regulator for the power system. November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 9
October 2003 MSR Action Items AI MSR 1101 -6 Description A discussion with John Donohue to determine if the $87 K cost of upgrading ITOS to Linex 8. 0 can be revisited. Responsibility Date to Resolve Michael Ryschkewitsch October 17, 2003 (Closed) Discussion did occur with John Donohue. Code S will fund the ITOS upgrade to Linex 8. 0. CREAM will not have to pay the full cost of that upgrade. AI Description Responsibility MSR 1101 -7 Develop a repository for all remaining open items/decisions that need to be made for/by each subsystem. Jeff Reddish Date to Resolve October 6, 2003 (Closed) This repository has been developed and Linda Thompson is the contact. November 4, 2003 CREAM Monthly Status Report 10
