SUBJECTS AND PREDICATES By: Kaylee Mills
Subjects: Subjects are people, places, things, and ideas that are the topic of a sentence. For example: The cat played with the yarn. The subject would be “The cat”. Don’t forget that the article is also part of the subject. You cannot just put “cat” you have to put the “The” along with it.
Predicates: A predicate is the word or phrase that tells what the subject is doing. For example: The cat played with the yarn. The predicate would be “played with the yarn”. The verb comes first and then the rest of the statement is put next.
Find the subject: Find the Subject: The dog chewed the bone. Sally and Bobbie played softball. Claire threw the ball very hard. My family and I went on a hike. Answers: The dog chewed the bone. Sally and Bobbie played softball. Claire threw the ball very hard. My family and I went on a hike.
Find the Predicate: The dog chewed the bone. Sally and Bobbie played softball. Claire threw the ball very hard. My family and I went on a hike. Answers: The dog chewed the bone. Sally and Bobbie played softball. Claire threw the ball very hard. My family and I went on a hike.
