jouer – to play A verb is a doing word, the action in a sentence, all sentences need a verb. In French, when a verb ends in –er it is in its infinitive form or dictionary form. The infinitive form of the verb in English starts with “to”, e. g. to play. When you want to put a verb with a subject pronoun, the ending of the verb changes, this is called conjugating a verb.
