Date: 27/4/20 Lesson Objective: We are practising using and applying the graphemes ‘wh’ and ‘ph’. Activity: • Recap all sounds in your phonics folder- make it a ‘quick’ recall! • Practise reading the red warning words on Task 1 sheet. • Can you put any of these words into a sentence? • Explain we are thinking about the digraphs ‘wh – white wheels’ and ‘ph’ – Sophie the dolphin’ What letters do we find in these sounds? (letter names). • Practice decoding for reading the real and alien words that all include the wh and ph sounds in Task 1. Please use your decoding toolkit to do this! Can you think of any words of your own that include this sound? • Practice writing words using the ‘ph’ and ‘wh’ sounds on the worksheets in Task 1. • Children to pick one word that has ‘ph’ or ‘wh’ sound and write this in a sentence of their choice.

(letter names) • Children to complete the real and nonsense word activity in Task 2. Choose 2 colours and colour in all the real words in one colour and all the nonsense words in another colour. • Children to write 5 words that include the ‘ew’ sound. Please say the word to your child, ask them to ‘say it, robot talk it, put it on their fingers, write it down’. • Words- chew, stew, grew, blew • Children to pick one of the words they have written. Can they write a sentence using their chosen word?
