ADVERBS Learning Objectives Students will be able to identify and use adverbs in sentences.
ADVERBS • Adverbs tell you more about a verb (action). • Most adverbs tell you how, when or where some action is done. • They describe the manner, place or time of an action is done. • Adverbs can come before or after the verbs they describe.
Adverbs: verbs tell more about a verb how when where
Some adverbs describe the way or how people do things. They often end in -ly. For example; • Sara writes neatly. • Ahmed ran quickly. Ask yourself, how does Sara write? Ask yourself, how does Ahmed run? • They plane landed safely. Ask yourself, how did the plane land?
Some adverbs describe answer the question “when? ”. . For example; • The train has already left. Ask yourself, when did the train leave? • We moved into our new house last week. Ask yourself, when did they move in? • I’m going to my new school tomorrow. Ask yourself, when is she going to school?
Some adverbs describe answer the question “where? ”. . For example; • The boys are playing upstairs. Ask yourself, where are the boys playing? • It’s very sunny but cold outside. • My house is near a lake. Ask yourself, where is it sunny? Ask yourself, where is the house?
