Date: Monday 15 th June 2020 Lesson Objective: To spell accurately. Activity: Spellings Test the children on the words ending with ‘ous’ without a definitive root word. (Spellings for this week are uploaded under ‘Spellings’). View the spelling Powerpoint. Read through it together. Are there anymore words that you can think of? Choose activities to help learn your spellings: • Make up a word search. • Write the words in rainbow. • Use sand or flour to create words. • Use a ball or balloon to throw and say each letter in turn. • Pyramid spellings.
Date: Tuesday 16 th June 2020 Lesson Objective: To plan an explanation text. This week, you will be beginning to write your explanation text about ‘How butterflies grow’. You will be using the facts which you researched a couple of weeks ago (I hope that you kept them safe ). Activity - Read through the ‘Writing an explanation text’ Powerpoint. Then, using the information which you have researched, you will plan your explanation text. Use the ‘Explanation text plan’ resource to help you box up your ideas. Remember that this is a plan. You do not need to write in full sentences, but in note form with key vocabulary for each section.
Date: Wednesday 17 th June 2020 Lesson Objective: To write the title and introductory paragraph of an explanation text. Now that you have planned your explanation text, you will begin to write it up using the skills which you have learnt over the last few weeks. Activity – Using the writing frame (or a new piece of paper), you need to create your title for the explanation text. The title needs to be bold and clear. Next, write you introductory paragraph (Remember to use you plan to help). You do not need to use headings when writing up, they are in your plan to help you. See the WAGOLL on the next slide.
Here is the WAGOLL (What a good one looks like). Introduction - what the text is about. Stage 1. Remember time conjunctions, chronological order and to write in the present tense. Stage 2. Remember time conjunctions and to use the present tense and to write in chronological order. Stage 3. Read through stages one and 2. Remember to use cause and effect conjunctions, as well as time conjunctions and to write in the present tense. A closing sentence which refers back to the title of the explanation text.

Now that you have written the title and the introductory paragraph to you explanation text, you will now be writing the first step / process of ‘How butterflies grow’. Activity – Look at your explanation text plan. What key information will you need to include in the first process / step? Remember: v You need to write in chronological order. v Use time conjunctions. v Use the present tense (are, is) v Use cause and effect conjunctions See WAGOLL resource or on slide 4. Chronological order (noun) – The arrangement of things following one after another in time.
Date: Friday 19 th June 2020 Lesson Objective: To be able to write in chronological order. Today you will now be writing the second step / process of ‘How butterflies grow’. Activity – First, read through your explanation text which you have started to write. Look at your explanation text plan. What key information will you need to include in the second process / step?
