The ‘REMAINING PROMISE’

Hebrews 4: 1 [1] Therefore, while a PROMISE to ENTER INTO His REST remains LET us FEAR [SUB] unless any one of you should appear to have COME SHORT of IT.

Hebrews 4: 11 [SUB] [11] Let us therefore make every effort to ENTER INTO that REST, unless in following the SAME EXAMPLE of DISOBEDIENCE ANYONE MAY FALL SHORT of IT.

[1] … a PROMISE to ENTER INTO His REST…. [11] … make every EFFORT to ENTER INTO that REST …. Hebrews 4: 1, 11

Question – “HOW DOES anyone ENTER INTO this ‘REST’? ”

Answer – “through having the FAITH that SURRENDERS!”

Begin by BELIEVING with ALL your HEART that there is REST in a LIFE of FAITH!

Matthew 16: 24 … “IF ANYONE desires to come after Me, let them DENY them. SELF, and TAKE UP THEIR CROSS, and FOLLOW ME. ”

Israel’s Example Deuteronomy 5: 6 [6] “I AM the LORD your God Who BROUGHT you OUT of the land of Egypt, OUT of the house of SLAVERY. ”

Deuteronomy 6: 23 [23] and He BROUGHT us OUT from there IN ORDER TO BRING us IN, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers. ' Israel’s Example

God BROUGHT them OUT of SLAVERY… IN ORDER TO BRING them INto the PROMISED LAND! Israel’s Example

BUT - Deuteronomy 12: 8 -9 [8] “You SHALL NOT DO at all what we are doing here today, EVERY MAN DOING WHATEVER IS RIGHT IN HIS OWN EYES; Israel’s Example

[9] for you HAVE NOT YET COME to the RESTING PLACE and the inheritance which the LORD your God IS GIVING you. [Deuteronomy 12: 8 -9] Israel’s Example

Israel would NOT LET God BRING them IN! 11 Day Journey

Why Israel DID NOT let God BRING them IN!

[13] But ENCOURAGE one another day after day, as long as it is still called “TODAY, ” UNLESS any one of you be HARDENED by the DECEITFULNESS of SIN. Hebrews 3: 12 -19

[14] For we have become PARTAKERS of Christ, if indeed we MAY HOLD [SUB] the BEGINNING of our ASSURANCE FIRMLY until the end; Hebrews 3: 12 -19

[15] while it is said, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS IN THE REBELLION. ” [G 3894] [see Ps 95: 8 -9] Hebrews 3: 12 -19

[16] For WHO having HEARD REBELLED? [G 3893] Indeed, not all those who CAME OUT of Egypt led by Moses? OUT from BONDAGE! Hebrews 3: 12 -19

[17] And with WHOM was He ANGRY forty years? WAS IT NOT with those who SINNED, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? Hebrews 3: 12 -19

[18] And to whom did He SWEAR they should not ENTER INTO His REST, [G 2663] but the ONE’S BEING DISOBEDIENT ? [G 544] [19] And we see that they were not able to ENTER because of UNBELIEF. [G 570] Hebrews 3: 12 -19

1 an EVIL HEART [vs 12], 2 brings about UNBELIEF [vs 12], 3 which results in WITHDRAWING from God [vs 12], 4 and DISOBEDIENCE [vss 18 -19; 4: 11]! Hebrews 3: 12 -19

“Since a PROMISE REMAINS…”

Hebrews 4: 1 -11 [1] Therefore, while a PROMISE to ENTER INTO His REST REMAINS LET us FEAR [SUB] unless any one of you should appear to have COME SHORT of IT.

[2] For we also have had good news PREACHED to US, JUST AS THEY also; but the WORD did not PROFIT them, because it was NOT UNITED with FAITH in those who heard. Hebrews 4: 1 -11

FAITH is NOT just saying you believe something is TRUE! FAITH is INSTRUMENTAL [dative], FAITH is ACTING UPON what you say you believe! “BY FAITH…” [Hebrews 11] Hebrews 4: 1 -11

[3] For we who HAVE BELIEVED ENTER that REST…. [6] Since therefore it REMAINS for SOME to ENTER it… Hebrews 4: 1 -11

[6] … and those who formerly had good news preached to them FAILED to ENTER because of DISOBEDIENCE, [G 543] [7] He again fixes a certain day, “TODAY”… Hebrews 4: 1 -11

[7] … saying in David after so long a time just as has been said before, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR [SUB] HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS. ” [Ps 95: 7 - 8] Hebrews 4: 1 -11

[8] For if Joshua HAD GIVEN them REST, He (God) WOULD NOT have spoken of ANOTHER DAY after that. [9] Therefore there REMAINS a SABBATH-REST [G 4520] for the people of God. Hebrews 4: 1 -11

[10] For the one who has ENTERED His REST [G 2663] has himself ALSO RESTED [G 2664] from his works, just as God from His. [see Gen 2: 2; Heb 4: 4] Hebrews 4: 1 -11

[11] Therefore let us be DILIGENT [G 4704; SUB] TO ENTER INTO that REST, unless anyone FOLLOWING in the SAME EXAMPLE of DISOBEIENCE MAY FALL. [SUB] Hebrews 4: 1 -11

CONFESS, “I CANNOT DO IT!” “I MUST TRUST God to GIVE me THAT REST!

Matthew 13: 45 -46 [45] “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant SEEKING fine pearls, [46] and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and SOLD ALL that he had, and BOUGHT IT.

SURRENDER… your LIFE to God, so He CAN BRING you INTO His PERFECT REST!

Hebrews 4: 15 -16 [15] For we DO NOT HAVE a high priest who CANNOT SYMPATHIZE with our weaknesses, but One who has been TEMPTED in ALL THINGS as we are, yet without sin.

[16] Therefore let us DRAW NEAR [SUB] with CONFIDENCE to the throne of grace, that we MAY RECEIVE [SUB] MERCY and MAY FIND [SUB] GRACE TO HELP in time of need. Hebrews 4: 15 -16
