Help with your finances Student Financial Support Team manage financial support and awards • Hardship funding for students experiencing financial difficulties • Various scholarships, bursaries and prizes to UK, EU and international students • US Federal and Canadian Provincial funding • Budgeting and money management • One-to-one student appointments • Drop-in sessions 14. 00 – 16. 00 on Wednesdays and Thursdays - Drop-ins are for quick straightforward queries - Complex queries require appointments
Support for disabled students • Discussion regarding support requirements • Assistance in applying for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) • Help to arrange assessments of study support requirements • Liaison with the Exams Office about exam arrangements • Liaison with academic schools regarding appropriate support • Drop-in sessions 13. 00 – 14. 00 on Wednesdays and Fridays (term time only)
Specialist learning support • Support for students with a specific learning difficulty or an Autistic Spectrum Disorder • Development of study skills: specialist 1: 1 tuition and signposting to study skills resources • Support to develop social skills and access social activities • Autism and Asperger Support Network (AASN): a peer-support group for students • Drop-in sessions 13. 00 – 14. 00 on Wednesdays and Fridays (term time only) • Autism/Asperger's drop-in sessions: 15. 00 – 16. 00 on Wednesdays (between following dates: 28/09 -26/10; 11/01 -01/02; 17/05 -07/06)
Support for students with longterm mental health conditions • Difficulties usually lasting over a year or likely to do so • May include those with diagnosis of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, personality disorder • Provision of reasonable adjustments to support students to engage in their studies eg additional time in exams • Signposting to external services providing specialist assessment/treatment
Counselling and therapeutic support • Without charge and available to all current students • Assessment appointment: - book in person, by phone, via web form - short face-to-face appointment in King’s Gate • Signpost to relevant online materials/self-help resources • One-to-one sessions/groups • Refer to specialist services, internally and/or externally • Student Wellbeing staff available to talk to if you’re worried about another Newcastle University student
Religion, faith and spirituality Chaplains provide support to students of any faith or none, including: • Mindfulness sessions • Confidential listening and support • Faith exploration • Signposting to appropriate local faith communities • Opportunities for prayer and worship • Spiritual accompaniment
Support for exchange, Study Abroad and international students • Academic Exchange Co-ordinators based in schools are responsible for providing academic advice to make sure exchange activities meet the requirements of degree programmes • The Student Mobility Team facilitates the exchanges by managing relationships with partner universities, paying out Erasmus+ grants to eligible students and supporting applications to Non-EU partners • Support for incoming exchange and Study Abroad students • Support for international sponsored students • Support and events for all international students on campus (e. g. HOST, Christmas events, International Community Day)

Health, wellbeing and safety • All students are encouraged to register with a doctor upon arrival in Newcastle – visit www. nhs. uk • All students (up to age 25) going to university for the first time should have received the meningitis vaccine (Men ACWY) – if you have not, contact your doctor • University security – available 24/7 for emergencies on campus • Safe. Zone – free new app for all students, connecting you directly to the University security team
