Career Services History � 1890’s: British culture includes career services � 1892: First American chancellor, University of Nebraska, to create a committee of faculty responsible for student “placement” services � 1900 s: Harvard, Yale, John Hopkins, and Chicago develop career services at their universities � 1929: Stock market crash and the Great Depression adapted “placement” services to include vocational training � 1960: Career fairs, career counseling, and career education emerge. � 1990 s: Networking and online employment become more readily available
