Career Services History � 1890’s: British culture includes career services � 1892: First American chancellor, University of Nebraska, to create a committee of faculty responsible for student “placement” services � 1900 s: Harvard, Yale, John Hopkins, and Chicago develop career services at their universities � 1929: Stock market crash and the Great Depression adapted “placement” services to include vocational training � 1960: Career fairs, career counseling, and career education emerge. � 1990 s: Networking and online employment become more readily available

Mission and Vision “To provide comprehensive career services, train career service practitioners, conduct life/career development research, and disseminate information about life/career services and issues to the University community, the nation, and the world” -The Florida State Career Center

Career Advising � Monday-Friday: 9: 00 AM - 4: 30 PM Extended hours Tuesdays until 8: 00 PM �Work with students to develop a plan to reach their career goals.
