Student Questions for Purposeful Learning
What is it, you ask? • Allows students to gain and hold interests • Teachers have students asks their own questions about the material • Students become “interrogators” with the information presented • First, pick a statement from the unit to spark debate or questioning from students.
The American Revolution occurred because the people didn’t want to be taxed by the English anymore.
• In pairs or small groups students would create questions that they would like answered. • Then, the students would read their questions out loud as the teachers wrote them down. • If questions overlapped then they would be come highlighted. • The more a question is highlighted or marked, the more the students would like to learn about that question.
Overview • Look over the material to come • Create a statement that sparks debate and/or questioning • Break up the class into small groups and have them write down their questions • Have students read their questions out loud and write them down on the board • Mark repeat questions • The marked questions should guide the unit
