How to Obtain a MAT waiver If you are a physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner (NP), certified nurse-midwife (CNM), or physician assistant (PA) and have an active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number to dispense controlled substances, you are eligible for free, discipline -specific MAT Waiver Training. The MD/DO training is 8 hours. The NP, CNM, and PA training courses are 24 hours. Both in-person and online courses are available. You can also access free mentoring services. This helps you employ evidence-based practices when prescribing opioids and effectively use medications in treating OUD. The mentoring program is available by telephone, email, or in person, in some cases.

MAT Training By completing free medication-assisted treatment (MAT) training and obtaining your Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000) Waiver, you're eligible to receive National Health Service Corps (NHSC) award preference. The NHSC’s partnership with SAMHSA’s Provider Clinical Support System connects you to training for the DATA Waiver, which helps improve access to opioid use disorder (OUD) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment.
