Myths about UTT SCS. . . People using the SCS are weak and cannot

Myths about UTT SCS. . . People using the SCS are weak and cannot handle their stories. The SCS is for “mad” people or people with “big” issues. Counsellors make you lie on a couch, ask how you feel about your mother/father/whatever and then instruct you what to do to fix things. Counselling at the SCS are not really professional or as good as what is available elsewhere.

Myths about the UTT SCS. . . You have no choice in the matter if it’s suggested that you should speak with the SCS Counsellor. When you go to the SCS a “tag” is put on your file by the university. As soon as you leave the Counsellors tell instructors/administration/parents whatever you share with them.

CONFIDENTIAL All information received during the counselling process remains confidential except: Where the Counsellor is subpoenaed by a court of law or; Where there is a threat of or risk to life and limb. Information shared with the Counsellor is held in trust and does not form part of one’s student records. Files held in trust are shredded several years after graduation. Any other disclosure of information requires signed consent.
