What is it? 0 In short - The Student Council (SC) is a group of elected students that meet once a week to discuss how we can improve GWA by taking action, adding to GWA’s Mission of developing international minded learners. The SC goal is to take action within and from GWA, to our local communities to touching lives globally.
Who will you elect? ? ? 0 Every class must elect their student council member to represent them. 0 It is extremely important that you elect the person who you think will represent you and your class the best. 0 That may Not necessarily your best friend or the person you sit next to. 0 Choose Wisely! CHOOSE THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB!!
Are you the BEST person? 0 Student council members will be required to meet every Tuesday from 3: 45 to 4: 45. 0 That means you CAN’T pick an ASA on a Tuesday for the entire year!!! 0 Once selected, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHANGE YOUR MIND!!!!!!! 0 It is a YEAR LONG commitment!
Why do we have a Student Council? 0 GWA is an amazing school with amazing opportunities and activities. 0 Although we are already the happiest school in the UAE, we can always improve. 0 This is your voice to plan fun school spirit events, improve the lives of others in promoting charities, and creating awareness on global issues. 0 That is where you come in, ALL OF YOU! 0 Students are the biggest and most important piece of the GWA puzzle, without you…. 0 There is no GWA!!!
Your voice matters!!! 0 It is vital that your voice is heard. 0 From your friend, to Mr. Smith, all the way to Mr. Mc. Bride. 0 That is where the Student Council comes in. 0 They are your voice; they make sure that you are heard by bringing your ideas to the SC meetings!!! 0 So, who will you choose to be your voice? ? ? 0 Be wise in you decision.
What will the chosen ones do? 0 The SC Representatives will meet once a week on a Tuesday from 3: 45 -4: 45. 0 They will discuss very important topics related to: School improvement; Fun activities to do at school, as well as; Getting involved with charities and raising money and; Creating awareness on Global Issues. 0 They will take action to make these events happen. 0 They will promote these events. 0 They will plan, script, film and showcase the SC News once a month. 0 They will be very busy making GWA the best school!!!
Who will you be working with? The Student Council Reps. will be working closely with Ms. Rathica who is starting her 3 rd year as the SC Team Leader, as well as Mr. Rudi who has just recently joined the team. They are eager to help you become the Leader you are! Ms. Rathica Mr. Rudi
So what now? 0 If you are interested and…. 0 You think you have the leadership skills needed to represent your class, and … 0 You are happy to meet EVERY Tuesday for an hour, and … 0 You are super reliable, and … 0 You are willing to work sometimes during your lunch, and… 0 You are extremely hard working, then… 0 Let your teacher know that you want to stand for our Student Council.
The Election Process: 0 1. Students who wish to represent their class need to prepare a speech and possibly a poster/flyer listing reasons why they would be the BEST person for the job. 0 2. You will then present your speech to the class. 0 3. The class will vote for who they think will be the best representative. 0 4. The class teacher will count the votes and name the two students with the highest number of votes. They will present their speeches to a panel of three judges. 0 5. The 3 judges will listen to the speeches and choose the representative for each class. The judges’ decision is final.
Important Dates!!! 0 Campaign week will commence on the 21 st of September to the 25 th; 0 Top two candidates will present their speech to the three judge panel on the 29 th of September from 1 pm. 0 Panel Speeches must only be 30 seconds long please! 0 Selected representatives will be announced in the PYP assembly on Thursday the 2 nd of October. 0 Good luck, may the BEST candidates win. 0 The first SCR meeting will be on Tuesday, 13 October.
