What is Student Body? ❖ National program that teaches students real world skills: ➢ Eat right ➢ Be fit ➢ Make healthy choices ❖ ❖ Make responsible choices for their health Provide youth opportunities to teach and help others Develop healthy lifestyles Improve on communication and leadership skills

The Healthy You - empowering teens to make wise food and lifestyle choices
Do I need to change what I eat? ➔ Answer: YES, it may be hard at first to change your eating habits but small changes can make it possible ◆ Why? ● it’s important to have a well balanced & healthy diet that's rich in vitamins and minerals ● decreases your chance of developing diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc. ● it helps you feel and look good
What can I do to have a healthy diet? ➔ Almost anything can help you improve your diet, just try to eliminate as many unhealthy food as possible ◆ ◆ ◆ eat less sugar and more fruit & vegetables eat grilled food rather than fried food don’t each much salt drink more water (5 cups daily) eat more fiber foods * You can eat junk food, but try to maintain your daily calories *
The Fit You- empowering teens to take charge of their health and their level of fitness
What does being fit really mean? -Biologically, “being fit” means “being able to provide for one's own life and wellbeing -A person who is physically fit is capable of performing and enjoying daily activities -Mental fitness is just as important as physical fitness, and shouldn’t be neglected
The Importance of Physical Activity -Can lower the risk of diseases -It can make you feel happier -It’s good for your muscles and bones -It can help with sleep
The Real You- empowering teens to maintain positive mental health
What is important about mental health? • Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. • Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. • Mental and Physical health both effect one and other • Stress is most common to provoke your mental health
Improving your mental health • Talking to a trusted friend • Being active • Eating well • Taking a break when necessary • Accept who you are
The Resilient You- empowering teens to live in ways that build emotional health
Why is it important to be resilient? ● Improved learning and academic achievement. ● Lower absences from work or study due to sickness. ● Increased involvement in community or family activities. ● A lower rate of mortality and increased physical health.
What youthatcan do tois valid, be noresilient? 1. First, recognize your struggle matter what you’re struggling with. 2. Then realize the ways you’re already resilient. 3. Don’t wait for the situation to fix itself. 4. Know your strengths and use them. 5. Don’t try to do it alone… 6. …but know that it’s okay not to tell everyone. 7. Find your favorite way to take a mental break. 8. Be compassionate with yourself and realize all the ways adversity has made you strong.
