Three main components of power system Power station (Generating station) Transmission Distribution Power station (Generating station) Power stations generally houses two or more 3 phase alternators operated in parallel Generating voltage is not very high it is usually 11 kv to 25 kv Power stations are located far away from the consumer Ex; Steam power plant, nuclear power plant etc Transmission Because of economical reasons electric power has to be transmitted at a high voltage Voltage range 220 kv The voltage is step up by step-up transformer Distribution The high voltage is step down in to 11 kv at sub- station
