CROSSWALK This is where drivers will expect people to cross. When crossing a street, look in any direction a car could travel. Continue to scan while crossing the street.
CROSSWALK LIGHT Person Walking: Cross the street when this symbol appears. Red or Orange Hand: Do not cross the street. Red or Orange Hand Flashing or Countdown Flashing: Do not start crossing the street if this symbol is displayed. If in the middle of crossing the street, finish crossing.
STREET SIGN & STREET INTERSECTION SIGN Street Signs can be different colors. They are often found at street intersections. Street Intersection: This is where two streets cross. When giving directions, it is helpful to state the street intersection.
STOP SIGN All drivers should come to a complete stop when approaching this sign, but do not count on that. This is a good place for a pedestrian to cross the street. Be sure to be aware of traffic coming from all directions.
TRAFFIC LIGHTS Green Light: Drivers may proceed. Yellow Light: Drivers slow down/use caution. Red Light: Drivers stop.
YIELD SIGN Drivers need to slow down and let crossing traffic go before proceeding.
RAILROAD CROSSING SIGN Look both ways before walking across a railroad crossing. Be aware of gates that may move to block pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Lights, bells, and train horns may warn of oncoming trains.
ONE WAY SIGNS This sign indicates that drivers should be going down the road in one direction. Pedestrians can walk in either direction, preferably on the sidewalk. SAFETY TIP: Even though cars should be coming from one direction, look in both directions before crossing.
CONSTRUCTION SIGNS The path might need to be altered because of construction. Be aware of trucks and other moving equipment that could be dangerous. Look for cones and other signs telling pedestrians where it is safe to walk.
BUS STOP SIGNS This sign shows people where to wait for the bus. In most systems, the bus will not stop if a person is not waiting.
