STRATEGIC PLANNING Strategic planning is an ACTIVITY that is used to: • Shapes and guides what an organization/business is, who it serves, what it does, and why it does what it does • Written plan that identifies where an organization/business is going, the actions needed to make progress and measurements of success (measurable outcomes). WHY IS STRATEGIC PLANNING IMPORTANT? 1. Keeps all business/organization stakeholders on the same page. 2. Sets goals and milestones for the organization 3. Provides guidelines for what organization is, who it serves, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future.

JOSEPH Genesis 41: 46 -57 & 47: 13 -26 • Identified the timeline for implementation of strategic plan • Assessed land, employees & resources • Developed and implemented timeline for building inventory • Developed disbursement and sales of inventory • Implemented regional collection of food and grain • Kept meticulous records of the inventory (well as long as he could) • Implemented disbursement and sales plan for inventory
MOSES Exodus 18: 13 -26 • Listened to the advice of his father in law Jethro’s who advised on a strategic plan for managing the large Israelite population and their need of leadership • Trained people in God’s laws & decrees so they knew how to live according to God’s laws • Identified and selected capable men to be judges over specific numbers of Israelites
JOSHUA Joshua 6: 1 -7 • Understood the importance of seeking God’s advisement when moving forward with his plans • Sent spies ahead to assess the vulnerability of Jericho • Followed God’s specific instructions to accomplish the goal- destroy Jericho
NEHEMIAH • Assessed what he would need to start the project, acquired the necessary documents, secured resources and an investor (Nehemiah 1: 8 -9) • Assessed the damage to the walls (Nehemiah 2: 11 -17) • Established a work plan, assigned leaders for each task on the work plan and distributed the assignments among the leaders (Nehemiah 3: 1 -33) • Created a strategy to ensure the safety of the workers and the successful completion of the plan (Nehemiah 4: 15 -23)
PAUL Acts 19: 1, 10 • Location…location • Identified leadership, trained them and set them in place • Assessed the successful progress of established ministries and had a plan in place for providing support and advice to ministries
BIBLE LESSONS • Seek God whenever you make plans for your business or organization • Create a clear plan and write it down. Your plan should include goals, objectives, timeline, responsible party and a way to ensure that you can measure the successful outcome of the plan • Communicate the plan, action steps and assignments to appropriate parties (staff/board/investors/etc. ) • It is wise and Biblical to create a strategic plan for your business. God wants you to be successful in your endeavors

Participants will learn about each component and the part each plays in strategic planning. • Lesson #3: Ready! Set! Strategic Plan! This lesson will focus on showing participants how to build their own strategic plan using the seven components. Participants will draft sample verbiage for at least one of the components.
