STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS OVERVIEW Middletown Township Public Schools 2019
Overview • Strategic Planning is a proactive change process that focuses on the future by establishing a strong common well understood foundation of vision, mission and goals in the present.
WHAT IS STRATEGIC PLANNING? J. M. Bryson defines strategic planning as: “A disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, what it does, and why it does it. To deliver the best results, strategic planning requires broad yet effective information gathering, development and exploration of strategic alternatives, and an emphasis on future implications of present decisions. ”
BENEFITS OF STRATEGIC PLANNING • Will improve your district by outlining the direction you wish to take, identifying issues impacting the district, and deciding on priorities for action. • Without one, the district’s key stakeholders (parents, students, staff and the community) may become disconnected. • Challenges an organization to new levels of achievement by focusing the organization on its critical issues.
Questions Answered by Strategic Planning answers critical questions about an organization informed by all stakeholders: 1. How will the world of education and the school community change over the next five years? 2. What will we need to do to be successful in that new environment and how will we measure that success? 3. What are the challenges we will be facing and what opportunities will we have? 4. How will we systemically transform our District to meet those challenges and take advantage of those opportunities?
