Cold war ■ The cold war was a period of time where the Soviet Union and the US were on the brink of war. It is called the cold war because no direct fighting was taking place. Their were a lot of spies active in both nations, this lead to high security throughout the governments and a lack of trust between everyone even inside their own borders. ■ The government agency in stranger things my have soviet spies inside its organisation, this would lead to higher security and may explain why they used so much force trying to get back eleven. For example they kill the kitchen owner that eleven visits and gets food from. ■ Communism was an existential threat to American capitalism & democracy ■ US was more patriotic due to threat of USSR ■ Reagan boosted the economy, cut taxes and strengthened the military
