The Story of the “Special Ops” We have military intelligence that enemy ships are going to attack the US naval base in the Persian Gulf. Counter intelligence found the trajectory paths of these ships and are sending you the equations now. Your mission is to intercept these ships before they make it to the base but far enough away to not cause any civilian casualties. Your path of attack cannot be in a vertical or horizontal pattern, because you will be spotted and killed easily. Also, your team wants to be the one to get credit for the hit so, work quickly to find your path and be the first group to make a HIT on the enemy ships. Home Page

Game Directions The goal of the game is to be the first group to find a bomb path to sink all enemy ships. To play the game you have to graph the enemy ships’ paths, formulate a line to intercept each ship and put the bomb coordinate (team’s colored dot) on the classroom ocean grid. To win the game you have to be the first team with 3 exact hits for each of the enemy ship lines. Your bombs have to be in a straight line! Don’t stop working if you see someone place their bombs, they may be in the wrong spot. Return

Time to play “Special Ops”! FIND THE ENEMY SHIPS x–y=-4 3 x – y

Time to play “Special Ops”! FIND THE ENEMY SHIPS x–y=-4 3 x – y = 10 x – 2 y = - 2 Using this information, you are to move along a straight linear path in the ocean to place bombs at the points where the enemy ships should cross your created path. You have to be accurate or you may run the risk of being spotted or detonating the bomb yourself. Your path cannot be horizontal or vertical, meaning your line has to use both the x and y variables and cross each of the enemy lines at a diagonal. REMEMBER: YOU MUST PLACE YOUR BOMBS ON THE OCEAN GRID! Be the first team to blow up the enemy ships and receive special commendations from the President. Every team that is successful will receive commendations from your commanding officer. Do not be discouraged if another team finishes before you; keep working because their bomb places may be incorrect. You still have to complete your mission. After all, our base still needs protection! Home Page Game Directions
