It’s Permit-Required SWPPP = Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan Required to be implemented for all heavy equipment maintenance or storage yards and material storage facilities owned or operated by the City.
BMP: Best Management Practices The schedules of activities, prohibitions of practices, maintenance procedures, and structural and/or managerial practices approved by Ecology that, when used singly or in combination, prevent or reduce the release of pollutants and other adverse impacts to waters of Washington State.
SWPPP Objectives 1. To implement and maintain BMPs in order to identify, reduce, eliminate, and/or prevent the discharge of stormwater pollutants. 2. To prevent violations of surface water quality. 3. To prevent discharges of unpermitted process wastewater, domestic wastewater, non-contact cooling water, and other illicit discharges to stormwater drainage systems, or to surfaces waters of the State.
SWPPP Trigger Number 1 Heavy Equipment Maintenance or Storage Yard: An uncovered area where any heavy equipment, such as mowing equipment, excavators, dump trucks, backhoes, or bulldozers are washed or maintained, or where at least five pieces of heavy equipment are stored.
SWPPP Trigger Number 2 Material Storage Facility: An uncovered area where bulk materials (liquid, solid, granular, etc. ) are stored in piles, barrels, tanks, bins, crates, or other means.
