Get Trained! • One Million teachers, students, and community members trained in Stop the Bleed. • In fall 2019, about 56. 6 million students attended elementary and secondary schools, including 50. 8 million students in public schools and 5. 8 million in private schools.
Putting STB Training Into Action • The deadliest school shooting in the United States was the Virginia Tech massacre, 33 fatalities, and 23 injuries. The next fatal school shooting was the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, with 27 fatalities.
Towson University’s Home State • Maryland Survey on student safety, students on average, rated their physical safety a 3. 5/10 and their Rethink Security Training (Bowie, 2019). • Many community members, administrators, teachers and parents who do not believe it can happen in their school or community. • There is a need to be proactive and advocate for safety and training of adults and students.

Alert 911 A Alert 911 • Call 911 • Know you location • Follow instructions provided by 911 operator
Bleeding B Bleeding • Find source of bleeding • Look for: üContinuous bleeding üLarge-volume bleeding üPooling of blood
Compress - Pressure C Compress – Pressure • Apply direct pressure to wound • Focus on the location of the bleeding • Use just enough gauze or cloth to cover injury • If pressure stops the bleeding, keep pressure on wound until help arrives

Compress – Tourniquet C Compress – Tourniquet • Can apply to other or on yourself • Can be applied over clothes • Tourniquets hurt • A second tourniquet may be required to stop the bleeding
