STOCKPORT BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT SERVICE SUPPORT & INTERVENTIONS 2016/2017
INTRODUCTION Stockport Behaviour Support Service aims to help schools remove behaviour barriers to learning. We work with school staff to identify the support, strategies and interventions that a student needs to settle to learn. We often advise on how to manage the behaviour of a student in crisis - but we always emphasise the need to work proactively to identify the drivers of the behaviour. We like to use the Iceberg analogy at BSS. The behaviours we see are the tip of the iceberg, and the children’s unmet needs are below the water, driving those behaviours. We have a range of support, advice and interventions available to help schools address the unmet needs of their students. This booklet provides an overview of what we can offer this academic year. NQT BEHAVIOUR COURSE DETAILS SESSION 1 SESSION 2 SESSION 3 SESSION 4 • An engaging presentation, full of ideas to challenge your thinking about the role of a classroom teacher as you leave behind the days of being a trainee teacher. The session is based on real life examples, with a focus on helping you to feel more confident, positive and excited about meeting the needs of all the young people in your class • Honest advice from an experienced teacher on managing low, medium and high level behaviours. This session will help you think about what might be causing certain behaviours and what you can do to manage them. The session includes plenty of opportunity to discuss and problem-solve particular issues from your classroom. • Every teacher has a class that challenges, lessons they lack confidence with or pupils that frustrate them. The session involves an open and honest discussion to start identifying the barriers you are facing, to share good ideas with colleagues and to ensure you go away with a plan to "crack that difficult class”! • Inclusion is high on schools' agenda and funding changes mean schools are having to meet the needs of children with more and more complex needs. This session will begin to identify some drivers of behaviours. The session will encourage you to think about the needs of the pupils in your class, what strategies might support children with different needs and what changes can you make in your classroom Page 20
