Steps of Salvation 1 - Christ accomplished salvation 2 - How does a person receive salvation? 3 - Salvation is a long way 4 - Salvation has two sides, one divine and one human
Steps of Salvation 5 - Faith 6 - Repentance 7 - Confession 8 - Baptism 9 - Confirmation 10 - Holy Communion
Steps of Salvation 11 - Works 12 - Love 13 - Striving against sin 14 - The final step occurred in The Second Coming
1 - Christ Accomplished Salvation “ And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission” (Hebrew 9: 22). “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed” (Romans 3: 23 -25)
1 - Christ Accomplished Salvation “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world” ( 1 John 2: 1, 2). “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3: 16).
2 - How Does a Person Receive Salvation? Although salvation is offered freely to the whole world, but not everybody receive salvation There’re steps to follow to get saved …. . + This why St. Paul urges us to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2: 12).
Some people think that salvation is accomplished in one step only. But this is not true. Salvation is a long process that ends in the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Salvation Has Two Sides God’s Grace: “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), …. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2: 4, 5, 8, 9). Without His blood there’s no salvation, regardless of what we do.
Salvation Has Two Sides Human Acceptance & Commitment: Since we have Free Will, God respects our freedom to choose His salvation or refuse it. St. Augustine said, “While God created you without your, He cannot save you without you. ” All Personal Salvation Steps Combine God’s Grace and Human acceptance & work God’s grace will never stops, but people sometimes forget, deviate, or stop following God. One example: “for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world” (2 Timothy 4: 10).
5 - Faith Human’s side: Paul & Silas with the Philippian Jailer: “Sirs, what must I do to be saved? ” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household. Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. (Acts 16: 30 -33).
5 - Faith Jesus says, “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8: 24) “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16: 16). God’s Grace: “no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit” ( 1 Corinthians 12: 3). “how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? “ (Romans 10: 14)
6 - Repentance God’s Grace: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4: 12). “Restore me, and I will return, For You are the LORD my God” (Jeremiah 31: 18).
6 - Repentance Human’s Side: “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do? ” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2: 37, 38). + “repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations” (Luke 24: 47).
7 - Confession While the first step is to repent , the second step is to confess. “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled” (Mathew 5: 17).
7 - Confession in the Old Testament “‘And it shall be, when he is guilty in any of these matters, that he shall confess that he has sinned in that thing; 6 and he shall bring his trespass offering to the LORD for his sin which he has committed… And he shall bring them to the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin offering… So the priest shall make atonement on his behalf for his sin which he has committed, and it shall be forgiven him” (Leviticus 5: 4 -10).
7 - Confession in the Old Testament “Now Joshua said to Achan, “My son, I beg you, give glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession to Him, and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me” (Joshua 7: 19). “Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man” (Leviticus 16: 21).
7 - Confession in the Old Testament “Then Saul said to Samuel, ‘I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD’ ” (1 Samuel 15: 24, 25). “So David said to Nathan, ‘I have sinned against the LORD. ’ And Nathan said to David, ‘The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die’“ (2 Samuel 12: 13).
7 - Confession in the New Testament “Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins” (Matthew 3: 5, 6). “And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds”(Acts 19: 18), [confessed to St. Paul in Ephesus]. Believers came to the apostles to confess their sins because the Lord gave the apostles authority to forgive sins. As the priests in the Old Testament were given the authority to accept confession while the person laying his hands on the sacrifice, Christ also gave the priests the authority to forgive sins.
7 - Confession in the New Testament “if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector. Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 18: 17, 18). “He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained’” (John 20: 22, 23).
7 - Confession in the Early Church The transmission of the power of forgiveness of sins is plainly expressed in the prayer used at the consecration of a bishop as recorded in the Canons of Hippolytus: "Grant him, 0 Lord, the episcopate and the spirit of clemency and the power to forgive sins" (c. xvii). Still more explicit is the formula cited in the "Apostolic Constitutions": "Grant him, O Lord almighty, through Thy Christ, the participation of Thy Holy Spirit, in order that he may have the power to remit sins according to Thy precept and Thy command, and to loosen every bond, whatsoever it be, according to the power which Thou hast granted to the Apostles. " (Apostolic Constitutions VIII. 5).
7 - Confession in the Early Church The Dedache written at the close of the first century or early in the second, in 14. 1, “On the Lord's Day come together and break bread. . . having confessed your transgressions that your sacrifice may be pure. “ St. Cyprian in his "De lapsis" (A. D. 251) "Let each confess his sin while he is still in this world, while his confession can be received, while satisfaction and the forgiveness granted by the priests is acceptable to God" (c. xxix).
7 - Confession in the Early Church St. Athanasius (d. 373): "As the man whom the priest baptizes is enlightened by the grace of the Holy Ghost, so does he who in penance confesses his sins, receive through the priest forgiveness in virtue of the grace of Christ" (Frag. contra Novat. in P. G. , XXVI, 1315). St. Augustine (d. 430) warns the faithful: "Let us not listen to those who deny that the Church of God has power to forgive all sins" (De agon. Christ. , iii). St. Ambrose (d. 397) teaches that this power was to be a function of the priesthood. "It seemed impossible that sins should be forgiven through penance; Christ granted this (power) to the Apostles and from the Apostles it has been transmitted to the office of priests" (On Penance II. 2. 12).
8 - Baptism God’s Grace: “according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3: 5 -7).
8 - baptism Human’s Side: “Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again’ (John 3: 5 -7). “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16: 16).
8 - Baptism “‘Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized? ’ Then Philip said, ’If you believe with all your heart, you may. ’ And he answered and said, ’I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. ’ So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him’ (Acts 8: 36 -38).
8 - Baptism “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Mathew 28: 19). What Happens in Baptism? “do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6: 3 -4).
9 - Confirmation (Chrismation) The Holy Spirit sanctifies the person and makes him a temple of God. “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee” (2 Corinthians 1: 21, 22). “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory” (Ephesians 1: 13, 14).
9 - Confirmation (Chrismation) “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (Ephesians' 4: 30). “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things… But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him” (1 John 2: 20, 27).
