Overview Preflight Procedures n Normal Operating Procedures n – Modes, annunciators, etc. . . Bendix-King Vs. S-TEC n Altitude preselect n
Preflight Procedures n n Turn both the autopilot master switch and trim master switch ON Self-Test: After the autopilot master rocker switch has been turned on, the System 55 will do a self-test. After 5 seconds, RDY will illuminate indicating the self-test is complete. If fail illuminates, the autopilot MAY NOT be engaged.
Preflight Procedures - cont. n Engage HDG and VS modes – Select positive and negative rates of climb and note pitch steering n Turn HDG bug in each direction – Note roll steering Overpower autopilot n Disconnect autpilot and note freedom of movement n
Preflight Procedures - cont. n Trim test: – Very similar to Bendix-King procedures
Normal Operating Procedures n Control Wheel Steering - CWS – Quickest way to engage the autopilot – You can now select other modes of operation n NAV, HDG, APR, etc. . . – Can also use to reposition aircraft manually similar to the Bendix-King
Normal Operating Procedures n Heading Mode - HDG – Set heading bug on desired heading – Depress HDG switch n NOTE - The heading bug on the S-Tec HSII is in the opposite position than the Bendix-King HSII.
Normal Operating Procedures n Navigation Mode - NAV – Select the desired course with the HSII course selector and engage the NAV button. – If the course selector is at full-scale deflection, the autopilot will establish a 45 degree course intercept angle. – If you desire less than a 45 degree intercept angle, simply place the heading bug on the desired intercept heading and simultaneously depress the NAV and HDG buttons.
Normal Operating Procedures n Approach Mode - APR – Increases sensitivity – Depress when in the navigation mode
Normal Operating Procedures n Vertical Speed - VS – May select the desired vertical speed in 100 foot increments – Rotate the VS knob clockwise or counterclockwise – Will show up as a single digit in the far right corner – Maximum of +/- 1600 FPM
Normal Operating Procedures n Altitude - ALT – Altitude hold – You may make corrections for en-route barometric changes by rotating the VS knob while in ALT mode. – Each click will increase/decrease the altitude by 20 feet to a maximum of 200 feet.
With the S-TEC System 55 Autopilot you. . . Cannot use during single-engine operations n May engage the system by pressing the CWS button on the control wheel n May do a back course approach by pressing the REV button n
Disconnecting the S-TEC Autopilot master switch - OFF n Depress the Autopilot Disconnect/Trim Interrupt switch on control wheel n Autopilot circuit breaker n
The System 55 is not to be engaged. . . n n n n When airspeed is greater than 185 kts. With more than 25 degrees of flaps When conducting a missed approach or go-around When taking off or landing When performing more than a CAT I approach When airspeed is less than 80 kts.
