Stavropol State Medical University first opened its doors to students in 1938. In February 2013 Academy officially became a university Today it is the largest medical higher school in the North Caucasus Federal District.

In February 2013, the Academy became officially a University On February 18, 2013 the official state registration of amendments to the Charter of the former Stavropol State Medical Academy took place. This year, the Stavropol State Medical University is turning 75 years old!

At the University there are 7 faculties, where 4, 500 Russian and foreign students from 32 countries are trained. At 68 departments of the University there work: • • More than 105 Doctors of Science 386 Candidates of Science 64 Honoured Doctors of the Russian Federation 2 Honored Scientists of the Russian Federation At present, Stavropol State Medical University is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Koshel Vladimir Ivanovich. 5 824 Russian and foreign students are trained at 7 faculties

The General Medicine Faculty is the oldest in our University. Teaching of specialty 060101 “General Medicine" is performed at more than 40 departments of St. SMU. General Medicine Faculty is founded in 1938

The Faculty bases have modern equipment with specialized classrooms where all types of qualified dental care rendered. Faculty of Dentistry was opened in 1958

The Faculty has trained and graduated more than 3, 200 pediatricians. Over the past five years, about 15% of the graduates finished the Faculty, with honors. Faculty of Pediatrics was opened in 1973

The Faculty conducts teaching in full-time and by correspondence in the following specialties: Full-time tuition, 4 -year training: §physical education for persons with deviations in a state of health (adaptive physical education) §special (defectological) education §biology Correspondence form, training period of 5 years: §biotechnology §economy §social work The Faculty also trains students in the specialty “Nursing”, the graduates have the opportunity to be engaged both in teaching and administrative activities Faculty of Humanities and Biomedical Education was founded in 2011

1470 physicians, medical residents and interns from 80 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America are prepared by the Faculty. Foreign Students’ Faculty was found in 1961

The Faculty carries out pre-university training of pupils of secondary schools, lyceums, gymnasiums and medical colleges students as well as entrants graduated from a secondary school earlier. Faculty of Pre-University Training was founded in 2000

Post-graduate training, retraining and advanced training of doctors and paramedics for practical public health care in 46 specialties in the field of post-graduate education (clinical residency and internship) and 73 specialties of additional education (vocational retraining and skills development). In 2009 St. SMU purchased hardware and software package that allows mastering the practical manual skills in endoscopic surgery, arthroscopic rack «Stryker» , ultrasonic surgical knife «Harmonik» and other equipment. Institute of Postgraduate and Additional Education was founded in 1965

The University has developed several scientific schools: • Surgical school • Gastroenterology school • School of infectionists • School of otolaryngologists • School of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists • School of Pharmacy Science at the University

The following laboratories were introduced into the Center: • Experimental Surgery; • Nanotechnology of Medicines; • Cell Technologies; • Laboratory of Pharmacology; • Physiology and Pathology of the Endothelium; • Laboratory of Pharmacogenetic Studies. Center of Practical Skills Training was opened in 2011

• Obstetric and gynecological unit, neonatal intensive care unit, equipped with simulators and manikins of the latest generation allow to reproduce real clinical situations with the use of this obstetric and surgical instruments Center of Practical Skills Training The second specialized Cluster was opened in 2012

Clinical training of students takes place on the basis of 28 MPI in Stavropol and clinical departments of St. SMU: • • clinics of endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery Clinic of Eye Microsurgery Clinic of Border States Dental Clinic

Free classes for students of 9 -11 forms allow to get acquainted with the medical profession and the skills of research activities, meet with prominent scientists and clinicians to visit the departments and museums of St. SMU. Small Medical Academy was opened in 2010

There about 500, 000 books and periodicals in the library of the Academy. Since 2010, a large archive of digital library has been created and updated. A newspaper "Medicus" and the scientific journal "Medical Journal of the North Caucasus“ are published in St. SMU. Scientific Library

The structure of the health-preventive system includes a medical center, a preventorium and a student health center, where students of St. SMU get free medical check-ups, surveys, consultations and treatment St. SMU is a university of healthy lifestyles
