Control and Acquisition Electronics: current status on accelerators q In operation : • • More than 100 PLC in operation 15 Control Systems 60 Compact. CPI crates More that 3000 cables connected to Control units q The timing system: • Installed in less than one year between the call for tender and deployment • A master system distributes software messages to about 20 local CPCI boards which generate clocks and pulses to equipments ESRF: september 2006
Network & Computers infrastructure is ready for exploitation phase Æ The Ethernet network is now fully operational Æ Æ 1 main node 21 secondary nodes distributed around the Machine Up to 900 ethernet connections are cabled and operational Wifi network will be installed this summer (used only during shutdown periods) ÆAbout 40 linux rack mounted servers are operational and provide: • Required network services (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NTP, . . ) • Tango Services (configuration, archiving, etc. . ) • Support for Global. SCREEN Applications • Support for high level Tango Device. Servers (calculations, etc. . ) ÆA filer provides 1 Terabyte of storage space • its backup solution is also operational ÆAbout 30 operator stations are operational ESRF: september 2006 TX

Project Management facts • We are leaving the pic load period – – • A constant job is to follow up priorities and requirements from our internal customers – – • Sources Experiments A list of Device. Servers has been setup with associate dates for delivery – – • Software : • 10 people in the software group with 6 additional subcontractors are Hardware : About 12 people are working on the electronics installation For Machine And the first 10 beamlines A subcontractor is working fulltime with us on this matter ESRF: september 2006
Status of the Control System Conclusion ESRF: september 2006
Some Successful outcomes to date Ø Software integration of all subsystems of the storage ring has been done within less than 2 weeks Ø Software has (till now !!) never delayed Machine tests Ø Tango Devices provide also high level services (level 2 and 3 device servers) Ø up to calculations applications (like tune measurement), process management, state and attribute composers, equipment monitoring, etc. . Ø and is not limited to simple I/O distribution on the network. . Ø Software quality is satisfactory thanks to good software engineering practices Ø Versioning management (also adopted by Source division for Global. SCREEN applications) Ø Large internal and external use of a Bug tracker system Ø Continuously updated Report Boards Ø About 4 calls during the nights during the first 4 weeks of operation ESRF: september 2006
Next steps Ø Installation of Full TANGO Control systems on SOLEIL Beamlines Ø Transition to exploitation for the Accelerators ESRF: september 2006
