GIF++ at the Committees: LEAF • LEAF Meeting, Nov 20 th 2009, see http: //indico. cern. ch/conference. Display. py? conf. Id=74989 From the minutes: There are two issues one concerns the availability of manpower to prepare the facility, the second one concerns the financing of the project. In order to assess the manpower resource, Ilias should prepare an overall schedule with all the other projects to be carried out by EN: Hi. Rad. Mat facility, NA 62, NA 61, Cloud, GIF++. Priorities will have to be discussed. This will allow preparing a resource driven planning for the GIF++. The consequence will be most likely a delay in the availability of the GIF++ facility. Before addressing the project to the Research Board, we should clarify the budget resources. Presently taking into account the resources from the White paper Theme 3 allocated to the project (300 k in 2009, 200 k in 2010) and some allocation from EN (100 k), we are missing about 750 k. This should come from the users of the facility and mainly from the experiments. A memo will be send to the experiment asking them to take a commitment on the financing of the facility. We concluded that it is too early to address the research board in December and to delay that for the next RB in March 2010. GIF++ and the Experiments • ATLAS supports the GIF++, however wants CERN to pay

GIF++ and the Experiments • ATLAS supports the GIF++, however wants CERN to pay for the facility. Financial support could be possible, e. g. as a loan. • CMS supports an Irradiation Facility, but wishes to have a review of the source intensity. Idea: safe money by buying a less intensive source. • CMS: if investment of money into beam lines, prefers to invest into H 2. Better/cheaper to keep/consolidate old GIF. • Users / Institutes: some institutes started to seriously contribute to the GIF++ E. g. : an institute considers to build a new filter system • Users / Institutes are concerned about time scale for LHC detector upgrades, about s. LHC timescale • Comment CR: CERN as high energy physics lab needs an Irradiation Facility for any LHC detector consolidation or upgrade. We should stick to our plan for a GIF++ in the North Area.
