STATISTICS MATHS MASTERY - YEAR 3 I CAN INTERPRET AND PRESENT DATA USING BAR CHARTS, PICTOGRAMS AND TABLES. I CAN SOLVE ONE AND TWO STEP PROBLEMS. SMALL STEPS: • PICTOGRAMS • BAR CHARTS • TABLES

INFORMATION SMALL STEP: TABLES Children will interpret information from tables to answer one and two-step problems. They will use their addition and subtraction skills to answer questions accurately and ask their own questions about the data in tables. Mathematical Talk • What information can we gather from the table? • Can you explain to a friend how to read the table? • Where do we need to use tables in real life? • What other questions could I ask and answer using the information in the table?

LESSON 1 SMALL STEP: TABLES I wonder how much you have learnt about Statistics

LESSON 1 SMALL STEP: TABLES I wonder how much you have learnt about Statistics and Data so far… Have a look at the representations of data. Which two show the same data? How do you know? Look at the scales carefully.

Now see if you can use the table to help you answer these questions… Read each question carefully and look out for those ‘two step’ problems that we practiced when looking at pictograms and bar SMALL STEP: TABLES (VF) charts! LESSON 1 Reminder for two step problems. (3 and 5) Step 1 – Work out how many laps were run in week 1 then in week 2. Step 2 – Find the difference between your two answers (3) or which week had the biggest total (5). Can you remember why on question 3 for step 2 we have to find the difference?

LESSON 2 SMALL STEP: TABLES (R) Today we are going to look at some ‘reasoning’ questions. Remember these are the ones that require you to explain or prove your answers to me. TWO STEP PROBLEMS Reminder for two step problems. Step 1 – Work out how many people, adults or children support each team. Step 2 – Then depending on the question see which is the higher amount? Or find the difference between certain teams?

LESSON 3 SMALL STEP: TABLES (PS) Today we are going to look at some ‘problem solving’ questions. Remember these are the ones that require you to think a little bit deeper and use lots of your mastery skills. You will need to complete the table using the information in the question before you can work out any of the other questions! REMEMBER – the more detail you can give in an answer the greater your depth of understanding is!
