Statistics Lecture 3 – How to work with LMS Moodle Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA
Introduction • LMS Moodle is known as Learning Management System (CMS, VLE) • it is a free web application (Open Source) that educators can use to create effective online learning sites • LMS Moodle established at FEM SUA since 2005: http: //moodle. uniag. sk/fem a practical example Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA
Course Statistics • available at: http: //moodle. uniag. sk/fem/course/view. php? id=211 • only for registered users (I’ll create an account for you unless you have it ) • it contains all study materials as well as homework assignments and online tests • navigation is quite intuitive since everything within the course is clickable (feel free to try it at home and have fun) Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA
Navigating the course • Core – Description of the course – Course introduction – Quantitative and qualitative data sorting (topic 1, I’m working on it), etc. • Sidebar blocks – – – People (participants) Activities (assignments, resources, quizzes, etc. ) Administration (grades, profile) Latest news (what’s going on) Upcoming events (course’s deadlines) Recent activity (updates) Ing. It’s my turn! Examples of: • online tests and • homework assignments Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA
Online tests • always made up of 5 questions (theory & practice) • time limit: 5 minutes • randomly generated questions (matching, multiple choice, T/F, calculated, short answer, etc. ) • grade immediately afterwards • only one attempt allowed (at the very beginning of each practical lesson) Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA

Homework assignment • due to one day before the next practical lesson • first, solve the homework on your local PC • second, upload the file via LMS Moodle for evaluation • last but not least, remember to read comments regarding your homework (your key to success ) Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA

Communication • • • chat (real-time) IM (real-time; sending messages to online users) forums (delayed response; I prefer answering your questions via forums to replying to your emails, thank you ) Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA
That’s it! Simple, huh? Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA
Next • Introduction to statistics • Qualitative and quantitative data sorting Thank you! Have a nice time! Ing. Martina Majorová, FEM SUA
