Scene #1: At home �Annie (a 12 -year-old): “Mom, can I go to John’s party tonight? ” �Mom: “No, I don’t think you should go. ” �Annie: “But Mooooom …. . Whyyyyyy? ” �Mom: “…because I don’t know John’s parents. ” �Annie: “But Mom, they’re nice …. ” �Mom: “Do you remember the story in the news about the girl who went to a party and was kidnapped? I don’t want that to happen to you! I need to meet John’s parents. ”
Scene #2: At the car dealership �Eric: “I don’t know … this car’s price is really high. ” �Car Salesman Bob: “Yes, but I think you should buy it. This car has four-wheel drive, and you live in Utah, right? You need four-wheel drive in the snow. Just last winter my daughter got in an accident with her two-wheel drive car because she couldn’t stop in the snow. �Eric: “Hmmm …. Ok, I’ll think about it. ”

Example: Do you think arranged marriage is a good idea? I think that arranged marriage can be a good idea. One reason is because parents are older and smarter than their children, so they understand how to choose a wife or husband better than the children themselves. For example, in the story of Vicki and Fardad’s arranged marriage, Vicki said that she doesn’t think she could have found a better man for herself. She is happy to be with Fardad.
