Grant Overview � 2 -year grant that aims to address the opioid crisis by Increasing access to treatment, Reducing unmet treatment need, and Reducing opioid overdose deaths through the provision of v Prevention v Treatment, and v Recovery activities for opioid use disorder (including both prescription opioids and illicit drugs, such as heroin) Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities 2

Funding Amount & Requirements �$11, 782, 710 per year for two years Cannot use grant funding to supplant existing opioid services �At least 80% of grant award must be spent on opioid use disorder treatment and recovery support services �Up to 5% of award can be used for administrative/ infrastructure costs Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities 3

Population to be Served �Treatment funds will serve 2, 030 people in year 1 and 3, 628 in year 2 (total of 5, 658 people) �It is estimated that 750 first responders and other stakeholders will be trained in naloxone administration during year 1 and 1, 500 during year 2 Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities 4

Goals and Objectives �Increase awareness about opioid misuse and abuse �Provide training for the public, communities, schools, and first responders to prevent opioid misuse and abuse in Georgia �Expand detox services for individuals with an opioid use disorder in targeted areas �Expand access/bed capacity of residential services for individuals with an opioid use disorder in targeted areas Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities 5

Opioid Overdose Data � In 2015, about 33, 091 drug overdose deaths in the U. S. involved opioids Marked increase from 28, 000 opioid involved drug overdose deaths in 2014 � Opioid overdoses have quadrupled since 1991 � More than half of opioid overdose deaths in the U. S. involved prescription opioids � Between 1991 -2015, prescription opioids have been involved in 183, 000 overdose deaths This data was obtained from the CDC. Opioid Overdose Data (cont’d. ) �Overdose rates were highest amongst individuals age 25 -54 � 982 deaths in Georgia were attributed to an opioid overdose in 2016 An increase from 900 opioid involved drug overdose deaths in 2015 �Cobb and Fulton counties are seen to have the highest number opioid overdose deaths in the state This data was obtained from the CDC.
