stat 261 lab#6 The Transportation Model
The general form of Transportation model 1 2 …. . n Supply 1 c 12 ……. . c 1 n a 1 2 …………. . . a 2 3 ………. …………. a 3 4 …………. a 4 …… ………… …… m cm 1 …………. cmn am Demand b 1 …… bn
A. m: Destinations , n : Sources B. Cij : Cost per unit from source i and destination j C. Xij : number of units to be sent from source i and destination j.
Transportation algorithm 1 - Check whether the model is balanced or not, if not make it balance. 2 - Determine the starting basic feasible solutions. (number of basic solutions =(m+n-1), number of nonbasic variables=mn-(m+n-1)) 3 - Determine the entering variable. 4 - Determine the leaving variable.
Example : 10 2 20 11 15 12 7 9 20 4 14 16 15 18 15 25 10 5 15
Solution (North west method) • Open Tora go to input screen enter # of sources and # of destinations click enter • Input cost in each cell, as follows.
Output (North west method) Click on solve problem select transportation model iterations north west method then we get the following.
Output
Least cost method As same as steps in north west corner method but we select from menu least cost method :
Output (Least cost method)
