STAR Experiment input for RHIC Coordination Meeting February
STAR Experiment input for RHIC Coordination Meeting February 21, 2007. Bill Christie Outline • STAR Preparations for RHIC Run 7
• Back in November/December we brought the various STAR Sub systems back online in preparation for Run 7. • We worked through the usual maintanance & failure problems, and had essentially all Sub system ready for the run. -TPC, FTPC, SVT, SSD, BEMC towers and SMD, EEMC towers & SMD, DAQ 1000 prototype, most Trigger hardware. • We then powered down the Sub systems, waiting for word about whether/when we’d have a Physics run. • We’ve started the process of bringing the Sub systems back online, and not unexpectedly, are finding failures that have developed since December. • As access allows, we’re working our way through these problems, to get all systems back to a readiness state for the run. • In addition to the tasks above, by design, we install the trigger detectors that reside on the beam pipe (up. VPD) and on the faces of the magnet (BBC) last, as historically we had to dismount them to gain access into the magnet. - The up. VPD should get installed, if all goes well today, then cabled, and ideally powered up and checked out tomorrow (requires access).
• We’ve tentatively schedule the reinstallation of the BBC detectors next Tuesday, after the final Power Supply work and White Sheet of the STAR Magnet by C-AD. • Starting tomorrow (depending on access) we’ll get back to working through the Trigger system, in preparation for the run. The estimate I have, at this time, for this effort is that it will require daily ~ 8 hour accesses, through Wednesday February 28 th.
