4 OPERATIONAL CONCEPT q Operation Thunder commenced on the 11 th of May 2018 q This operation has at its core a geographical and targeted approach focussing on dominating specific hotspot areas and identified individuals q It involves the deployment of 257 personnel from the Public Order Policing environments nationally to 9 identified stations in the Western Cape q Deployment of operational personnel: § Mitchells Plain Cluster § Nyanga Cluster Mitchells Plain, Philippi and Steenberg Manenberg, Elsies River, Bishop Lavis and Philippi East § Blue Downs Cluster § Worcester Cluster Ravensmead Worcester § Roving team q The establishment of four (4) strategically placed base camps: § Lavender Hill in Steenberg (corner of Military and Saint Christopher Road) § Uitsig in Ravensmead (corner of Arum and Aster Street) § Phillipi East (Stock Road) § Tafelsig in Mitchells Plain (AZ Berman Road)
