What does teacher professionalism mean? A teacher is committed to the teaching profession. 3
1. Professional Development The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his/her choices and actions on others and actively seeks other opportunities to grow professionally. 4
PD Examples ◈ Use evidence to critically reflect and refine instructional practices. (e. g. CO, student work, student assessments, research, colleague feedback, reflection, etc. ) ◈ Seek out opportunities to grow professionally. (e. g. PLC, on & off island trainings, higher degree, mentor program, research, colleagues, meetings/organizations, etc. ) 5
2. Learning Community Member The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents and agencies in the larger community to support student’s learning and well-being. 6
LCM Examples u Participate in collegial activities (e. g. attend PLC, PTA, staff meetings, mentor program, afterschool programs, Educ Conv, etc. ) u Make links with other learning environment (e. g. consult parents, counselors, colleagues, youth orgs, and other professionals) u Identify and use community resources to foster learning (e. g. guest speakers, field trips, public or community events, etc. ) 7

3. Reflective Practitioner Teacher is a reflective practitioner who evaluates and reflects on his/her practices continually looking for possible improvement opportunities. 9
RP Examples u Conduct self assessment regularly and revisit professional goals to ensure progress and growth. (reflection, teacher note, review lesson, CO, colleague feedback, etc. ) u Adjusts teaching strategies, techniques, and methods based on results of previous lesson. (test results, QAT results, daily lessons, lesson 10 plan, previous grade results, etc. )
RP Example u Participate in appraisal process provided by MOE. (revision of frameworks, evaluation, mentor program, etc. ) u Understand respect statutes and regulations with regards to being a teacher under Palau’s MOE (e. g. role model, protocol, professional) 11
