What is banned ? • Stand alone ladders must not be used to work from • Stand alone ladders can still be used for access only provided they are securely tied off 3
Why are stand alone ladders banned ? • Work at height is one of the major causes of deaths and injuries in construction and maintenance • Many of these falls happen during work from ladders • To work towards ‘goal zero’ work from ladders is no longer acceptable 4
What about Step Ladders and A Frame Ladders ? • These can still be used if they are secured and footed (held in place by another team member) 5

What is banned ? Steel mobile scaffolds 9
Why are steel mobile scaffolds banned ? • A high proportion of steel mobile scaffolds contain non-modular pieces which enable it to be assembled in ways which do not comply with the manufacturer’s instructions, thus making them unsafe for use • Steel sections are much heavier than aluminum sections, resulting in a greater number of accidents from manual handling, assembling and dismantling steel systems • Steel sections are often rusty, which increases the risk of cuts and disease like tetanus 10
Are all steel scaffolds banned ? NO Fixed steel scaffold can be used for tasks such as building with bricks and cement 11
