Stairs and Rails Focusing on what is new
Introduction • In this session, you will learn what is new to stairs and rails in 2017. The goal is that you will leave with a better understanding of the improvements made to 2017, that will increase your productivity.
History • Since 5. 4 (1992 -ish) there were minimal improvements made to stairs. Then 2016 came and a number of enhancements were made. Please review the informative webinar that Laura made for more information.
2016 enhancements • Main goal to reduce graphical. • Stair Quick Add. • Auto Riser. • Different stringers. • Abrasive nosings. • New tread types. • New support type with better control. • Grade added to grating. • BOM remarks. • Checker plate. • Top and bottom tread options. • Added clearances. • Connection macros. • Stair templates. • Fixes.
Direction • Stairs and rails have a higher priority, and Design Data is rising to the need. • A number of items from the specification were dropped from the 2017 release, but these dropped items are slated to be completed in future releases.
Direction • Example of dropped items are: Curved stairs, landings and supports, center stringer support, underside stringers, Quick access drawer for stairs, stringer and landing bracings, material profiler for treads, buy out treads, polyline for splined stringers, stair connections to columns, revamping the rail screen and general rail enhancements. • But as in 2016, a number of improvements have been added. Which will increase productivity.
• min(max( 1, (int)( fabs( z 1 - z 0 ) / 7. 5 ) + 1 ), (int)STAIR_TREADS_MAXIMUM);
• 2017 Stair enhancement specification • A lot of thought has gone into how the links, names, copy and modification functions in a single and multiedit conditions. • Not going to go in-depth to all the thought that went into this. The slide shows just a portion, but when you consider multi-edit, and all the possible scenarios, we believe it to be as solid as a first shot can be.
• 2017 Stair enhancement specification • Linked – When linked, changes made to setup’s tread will be adopted when the stair is processed. • Not linked – This symbol occurs when the user modifies the tread in the Stair edit screen. – Modifications made remains regardless of whether the user modifies the Setup’s tread schedule. – To modify tread to a different type, the user must change the tread type from the drop down.
– Cannot paste into tread differing types. I. E. cannot paste a grating into a pan tread – This symbol also appears with a multi-edit and both treads are the same modified values of the same original setup schedule tread • MIXED – This appears only if a multi-edit is performed on the stairs and one tread is linked and the other unlinked (modified)
Riser Closure Plate • Pan, and Continuous shape treads are not supported. • Not supported Plate treads • 2016 does not support any plate treads • Up to the user to clear obstructions such as bolts. • Up to the user to set clearance at ends. For 2016.
Riser Closure Plate • Plate will clash with material. This may be detected with external clash detection products. BIM coordinators will be required to know this. • Bends in plates are not performed. • As with all material components, the closure plate will adjust with stair end point relocation.
2017 Stair Presentation items • Tread naming. • Tread modification on stair edit. • Tread copy, paste, save and load. • Cap plate for no return stringer. • CNC marks. • Canadian style tread. • Bolted pan and continuous treads. • UI on input. • Stair quick add setup. • Riser closure plate (2016 by request? ) • Break apart fixes. (2016) • Plate stringer coping fix. (2016) • Grating tread grade. (2016) • User/System switch on edit. (2016)
Rails • Work on rails started late in the release cycle, so we will not see an overwhelming amount of fixes and enhancements, but this is what has been completed so far.
2017 Rail Presentation items • Rail quick add – Splice location scripts – Post location scripts? • Toe plate repair • Bringing in PIP standards • Speed fixes • Bug fixes
Bug 26378 - Toggle option for miter on toe plate in handrail.
Bug 19902 - Handrail - Vertical material of a P-End should use same section size as rails, not posts.
Bug 31348 - Handrail - User would like to control the gap between an angle top rail and the top of the posts.
Bug 31349 – Angle rails to have butted corner style
Bug 28274 - Handrail - Move endpoints of returns. Bug 38321 - Side supported handrail are not having the connections holes matched. - IN PROGRESS Bug 20687 - Handrail's piecemark field is read only, should be editable Bug 19668 - Handrail - Locate option for posts is only available when initially inputting the handrail. - Demo
Conclusion • I am hoping this activity of enhancements made to stairs and rails will continue to be a priority in future releases of SDS/2 - creating increased productivity in a very competitive market.
