St Pauls Church Wibsey THURSDAY NIGHT PRAYER WELCOME

St Paul’s Church, Wibsey THURSDAY NIGHT PRAYER WELCOME TO YOUR CHURCH Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

WELCOME TO OUR THURSDAY NIGHT PRAYER. This Power. Point presentation will give you all you need to celebrate at home this service. For the Song/Hymn, just click on the titles, and the weblink will open it directly in your computer. The songs are songs of Taizé, to introduce to the quiet of the night. You have the choice between a song in English, a song in Latin, or just an instrumental track. The videos with the songs in English are with or without the lyrics of the song; most videos with the song in Latin are without the lyrics; the videos with just the instrumental track gives the unsung lyrics.

The Psalm can be read by two people or two groups of people if you want. It is a psalm that was said by people during their pilgrimage to Jerusalem, as we prepare ourselves to our going to the heavenly Jerusalem. You may start by lighting a candle.

(Time of quiet to be in presence of the Lord)

Our help is in the name of the Lord, All who made heaven and earth.

SONG OF TAIZE In English (with lyrics): ‘Wait for the Lord’ In English (without lyrics): ‘Let your servant’ In Latin: ‘Veni Sancte Spiritus’ Just instrumental: ‘I am sure I shall see’

(Time of quiet to reflect on the past day)

For every blessing received today, and every good deed done by your grace: All Lord, we give you thanks and praise.

For every sin committed against you, our neighbours and ourselves: All we are sorry and repentant. Forgive us, heal us and strengthen us for tomorrow.

From eternity to eternity, you are Lord: All and we proclaim the coming of your reign.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!

THE WORD OF GOD A light on our path

PSALM Psalm 123 (Good News Version)

LORD, I look up to you, up to heaven, where you rule. 2 As a servant depends on his master, as a maid depends on her mistress,

so we will keep looking to you, O LORD our God, until you have mercy on us.

3 Be merciful to us, LORD, be merciful; we have been treated with so much contempt.

4 We have been mocked too long by the rich and scorned by proud oppressors.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Sovereign God, enthroned in the heavens, look upon us with your eyes of mercy, as we look on you with humility and love, and fill our souls with your peace through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

8 Be watchful and control yourselves. Your enemy the devil is like a roaring lion. He prowls around looking for someone to swallow up. 9 Stand up to him. Remain strong in what you believe. You know that you are not alone in your suffering. The family of believers throughout the world is going through the same thing. (1 Peter 5. 8 -9; NIr. V) READING

Into your hand, O Lord, I commend my spirit, All for you have redeemed me, Lord God of truth. Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit: All Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and be not wise in your own sight.

(Time of quiet prayer)

All Be present, O merciful God, and protect us through the silent hours of this night, so that we who are tired by the changes of this world, may rest upon you through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER As our Saviour taught us, so we pray with confidence:

(Modern Version) Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name; Your kingdom come; Your will be done; on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. (Traditional Version) Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

SENDING OUT In peace we will lie down and sleep: All for you alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety.

The Lord bless us and watch over us, All the Lord make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us. he Lord look kindly on us and give us peace. All Amen.
