About the MPO • The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1962 mandates the formation of a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) when certain criteria are met • The 2010 Census identified an urbanized area (UZA) with a population greater than 50, 000 that includes portions of the Lexington Park Development District, the NAS, and areas within Southern Calvert County • MPO designation means more funding for the St. Mary’s Transit System (STS).
