K-5 Virtual Faith Formation How the Course Worked: For students in grades K – 5, we used a family based curriculum that gathered parents and all the children in the household at the same time, via Zoom. Each virtual session was led by a catechist who connected the Sunday Gospel to our daily lives, what we believe as Catholics, the liturgy and sacraments, morality and prayer. The success of these efforts were contingent upon parent participation at all levels. We requested that at least one parent MUST be present with their child at every virtual session. Catechists were NOT expected to manage behavior and participation virtually.
The Lesson • • an opening prayer, led by the group catechist, a brief introduction of the lesson, led by the group catechist, a streamed video of the Sunday Gospel (child’s version), a family discussion, led by the catechist, about the Gospel and how it can be lived out in their daily lives, • a closing prayer • HOMEWORK and FAMILY ACTIVITY: each session will include a grade level lesson and Family Activity to be completed after the Zoom session.
Materials Each family received a faith formation tote bag. • The appropriate grade level Pflaum Gospel Weekly and Student Work book for each student in that family, • The lesson plan from October 1, 2020 – January 10, 2021, • A family craft or activity. • ***The Lesson Plan for January 24 – March 28 th 2021 was made available in December.

Part 2 of the lesson • Motivation to go to Mass BIG QUESTION: Why should I go to Mass if I do not get anything out of it? THE SHORT ANSWER: Mass is about worship, a total gift of self. We do not worship an experience, we worship a reality. The reality is God. • Let's watch this video
