Let us light the candle, make the sign of the cross and say… Dear God, Thank you for the big, round world Thank you for the sea. Thank you God for all my friends, Thank you God for loving me. Amen

Let us read today’s Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! Open our heart, O Lord, To accept the words of your Son. Alleluia! Our Alleluia (sung to the tune of ‘If you’re happy and you know it. . ) Alleluia, alleluia praise the Lord! Let us praise him for his glory, As we listen to the story. Alleluia, alleluia praise the Lord!
Let us read today’s Gospel. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (13: 33 -37) you, O Lord. Glory to Jesus said, “Be on watch, be alert, for you do not know when the time will come. It will be like a man who goes away from home on a journey and leaves his servants in charge, after giving to each one his own work to do and after telling the doorkeeper to keep watch. Be on guard, then, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming — it might be in the evening or at midnight or before dawn or at sunrise. If he comes suddenly, he must not find you asleep. What I say to you, then, I say to all: watch!” The Gospel of the Lord. Jesus Christ. Praise to you Lord,
Reflection What do you remember from today’s reading? What did Jesus tell His followers to do? Be on watch, be alert. Who did He compare us to? We are like servants waiting for their master to come home. Neither we nor the servants know when their master will return, but must be ever-ready to greet him when He does. Jesus promised us, that one day He would return. In this gospel story, Jesus is telling us that we must be ready when He comes again, but that we cannot be sure exactly when that will be. As we don’t know when He is coming, we must try to be ready all the time. Although we don’t have to stay awake all night, we can go to sleep! Advent is a time when we think about getting ready to welcome Jesus. It is the time when we remember and celebrate His birth at Christmas and when we look forward to when He will come again in glory. In today’s gospel, Jesus asks us to look out and keep our eyes open for what is happening around us, so that we are ready to meet Him when He comes.
How do you think we can prepare ourselves to meet Jesus? Advent is the special time of the year when we prepare ourselves to welcome Our Lord as the infant Jesus. We take the time to show our love for Him in many ways and we can show we are ready to meet Jesus through: • • helping everyone, sharing our belongings including everyone in our games being kind and not arguing giving money to the poor thinking of others praying more visit https: //cafod. org. uk/Education/For-families/Family-Advent-
Activity 1 Activity 2 For the 1 st Sunday of Advent we would add sheep to our Advent Frieze in the church hall. Maybe you can create your own at home. There is also a simple Advent calendar to print off and colour in. Please open the attachment for instructions.
Let us now bow our heads and say our closing prayer together… Generous God, You gave us a voice. Help us shout loud for what is right and fair. You gave us ears. Help us to listen to those in need. You gave us talents. Help us share and multiply them for the good of all your people. Amen.
